The trail to the Belchen, the most beautiful mountain in the Black Forest, starts right next to the house. Visit the Teufelsgrund show mine with its healing tunnels—just five minutes away by car—or the historic Benedictine monastery St. Trudpert from the 9th century. Other nearby attractions include the picturesque old town of Staufen, the mystical Nonnenmattweiher lake in the forest, the spa in Bad Krozingen, and the sunny city of Freiburg im Breisgau with its cathedral and historic old town. If you want a change from the Black Forest, explore the hilly vineyards and rustic taverns of the Markgräflerland and Kaiserstuhl regions. A train or car trip to Basel, Switzerland’s cultural capital, or a day trip to Alsace, France, is also highly recommended.
